Municipal Waste were formed in 2001 in Richmond, the capital of Virginia. Their sound is defined by blistering speed, aggressive riffs, and a strong hardcore punk influence. Lyrically, the band often draws inspiration from horror films, apocalyptic scenarios, and dark humor, giving their music its distinctive “party thrash” edge. Thanks to their high-energy live shows and raw sound, they quickly built a reputation as one of the most ferocious bands in their genre.

Their breakthrough came with Hazardous Mutation (2005), which earned them cult status among fans of the new generation of thrash metal, followed by The Art of Partying (2007) – an album whose title perfectly captured the band’s identity as a true “party thrash” phenomenon. Musically, they draw heavily from the legacy of classic ’80s thrash bands such as D.R.I. and Suicidal Tendencies, while revitalizing the style with contemporary energy and relentless touring, turning them into festival favorites around the globe.

Their live performances are notorious for their intensity and chaotic atmosphere, where band and audience merge into one massive thrash whirlwind. Their evolution from the raw ferocity of Atrocity for the Lust to lWorld Targets In Megadeaths showcases a fascinating transformation – from reckless speed/thrash to more sophisticated compositions infused with strong NWOBHM and technical heavy metal influences.

Bratislava’s Orbital Damage represent the dirtier, more abrasive face of the genre, where thrash metal collides with savage crossover and a post-apocalyptic aesthetic. Their approach is built on uncompromising impact and lyrics reflecting social decay and technological collapse, further emphasized by their visual presentation.
