The bards of Nordic folk metal, Ensiferum, are embarking on a winter quest across Europe – and they’re making a stop in Košice! Joining them on this epic journey are German power metal icons Freedom Call and Austrian symphonic metallers Dragony. Prepare for an evening filled with Norse mythology, epic tales, and fantasy worlds brought to life by three master storytellers!

Ensiferum stand among the most prominent representatives of folk metal – a genre that fuses powerful metal riffs with melodies inspired by traditional folk music. Their sound is built upon massive guitar walls, captivating melodic lines, and orchestral arrangements often enriched by choirs and acoustic instruments. This unique combination creates an epic atmosphere reminiscent of ancient heroic sagas and legends, where harsh growls intertwine with clean vocals, balancing the rawness of metal with the hymnic grandeur of folklore.

The roots of Ensiferum reach back to 1995, when guitarist Markus Toivonen founded the band in Helsinki. From their earliest demos, the band stood out as a defining force on the Nordic metal scene. Their self-titled debut album (2001) quickly drew attention for its blend of melodic death metal and folk influences, laying the foundation for the group’s distinctive sound. Over the years, the lineup has changed several times, but Toivonen has remained the band’s driving force and the guardian of its original vision.

Freedom Call, the German power metal veterans, have built a reputation since 1998 as one of the most optimistic and melodic bands on the scene. Their music is characterized by fast tempos, anthemic choruses, and a positive atmosphere that has earned them the nickname “happy metal.” Led by vocalist and guitarist Chris Bay, the band skillfully blends epic orchestral elements with infectious melodies, delivering shows full of energy and enthusiasm that never fail to lift the crowd’s spirits.

Dragony, hailing from Vienna, have been spreading the power metal gospel since 2007. They’ve gained fans through their epic melodies, fantastical themes, and energetic stage performances. Their sound builds on fast guitar riffs, grand keyboard arrangements, and powerful choruses reminiscent of a heroic fantasy soundtrack. Lyrically, Dragony draw inspiration from mythology, legends, and pop culture, creating a signature world where the might of metal meets playful imagination.
