Villagers of Ioannina City are a Greek rock band hailing from the Epirus region, renowned for their original blend of psychedelic rock, stoner, and traditional Greek folk music. Their work draws from the region’s rich cultural heritage, where melodies played on clarinet, flute, or lute have been preserved for centuries, and reimagines them in a modern context of electric guitars, heavy riffs, and hypnotic rhythms. The result is a sound that feels both ancient and futuristic, spiritual yet powerful—evoking the atmosphere of a ritual as well as a postmodern rock spectacle.

Formed in 2007, the band has gradually earned a cult status not only in Greece but across the European scene. Their landmark album Age of Aquarius (2019) showcased a fully developed sound—majestic, melancholic, and stirring—with lyrics exploring themes of spiritual quest and humanity’s connection with nature and the cosmos. Villagers of Ioannina City have managed to fuse ancient Balkan motifs with the aesthetics of modern progressive rock and stoner in a way so compelling that they’ve attracted fans across genres and generations.
